The presentation will discuss the evolution of ceramic materials including metal-ceramics and alternatives. It will delineate the many materials that don’t work and highlight the contemporary materials that do work. It will provide evidence that lithium disilicate materials provide excellent esthetic results along with longevity and also differentiate between generations of zirconia, some of which work and some of which don’t. It will give specific recommendations for clinical use of different materials in specific clinical situations.

Current Controversies in Restorative Dentistry Part II Time: 1.5 hrs.

This presentation will discuss the management and restoration of Class V lesions. It will discuss the etiology of root caries and non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs). Specific attention will be paid to the role of tooth flexure in the etiology of NCCLs.

It will also discuss when and how to restore these class V lesions. In addition, an evidence-based protocol for the use of silver diamine fluoride for the prevention and arrest of root caries lesions.
